Blog Journal #10

Hey Peers,     Today, I will write about surveys and how they can be beneficial to student teaching. First off, teachers need feedback to become better teachers. There is no such thing as a perfect teacher unless you're Robin Williams in dead poet society. I would use surveys to allow my students to give me feedback on how I can improve as a teacher. For grade matter, I would most likely teach social science so I'd survey my students on what areas or projects to study on. Maybe survey students on how their favorite period of history to focus on. Whatever it may be, surveys are very important to understand your students.     A topic I found very interesting after reviewing my classmates' blogs is relativity. When I say relativity, I mean how similar the students and I are to each other with how we feel about certain assignments or cultures. The students are just as anxious and excited about learning new teaching material for the future as I am and it is great to...

Hey peers,      There are pros and cons to distance learning. First off, learning online gives less motivation to students. Students now have to pay less attention in class due to not being actively watched and listened to. When students aren't being watched actively, they can't be punished for not paying attention in class. Personally, it is hard for me to be motivated to pay attention and I know it is hard for some of my friends to pay attention in class due to it being remote or online. Now the only pro I can say about online learning is that it is very flexible on where you are. You can now attend class anywhere so you're not wasting time heading to class. If I were a teacher, I would try to be enthusiastic as possible to teach my distant learners.     Furthermore, I found this website that provides information on Open Education Resources (OER) on a New England Board of Higher Education (NEBHE) website. The definition according to the New England Board is th...

Hey peers,      Like you all, I worked on making a website for our class. For starters, a new skill I learned is making a website which is very fascinating. I loved practicing to actually become a teacher as making a website can be a useful tool in teaching students. Certain things I worked on the website really appealed to me like making announcements, calendars, and resources. Calendars are a very useful tool in helping students memorize the due date. In the past, I wish my teachers had assignment calendars and things coming up. Honestly, the only con that I found was not putting in more effort as I can see a potential amazing learning resource for my students. Here is my website!  http://mrleclass.weebly.com/     When working with Diigo, the bookmark features, as well as sharing remarks, are a very smart tool for teachers and students. The tool not only allows students to work with each other and share their opinion with their peers, but it also al...

Hey peers!     For the school I chose to see teacher information, I chose my old high school. Monarch High School provides teacher names, contact information, and website. On the teacher websites, it provides information on their syllabus and assignments etc. Any parent or student can access this information by simply going on to their website. However, there are many things that students or parents would not be able to see like student grades and rankings or maybe certain assignments from grade book material.  https://www.browardschools.com/monarch Here is a link of one of the teacher's website :  https://geographymhs.wordpress.com/     How I envision myself in the future using technology would be me instructing my students with course videos on my website. I assume that teaching will be a lot more of an online technology thing in the future with in-person being optional. Ideally, I would like to teach in person with hopefully more advanced technolog...

Hey Peers!      Diigo seems to be a very useful learning tool with the option to highlight and discuss with peers. However, the time that I've been Diigo, it has deleted my account. I've tried multiple times to verify my account before I could recreate it again. This might have been a minor issue but it got me frustrated for a bit. Diigo itself is a good learning platform for teachers and peers to interact with each other though. I find the sticky note and highlight features very useful for the next time I have to write a paper or just want to learn!     The blogging process is nothing special in my eyes. I find the need to write about yourself seems narcissistic and pretentious in a sense, but if it appeals to others then I'm not judging on that. I do understand the need to write especially or just share things in a non-personal way. I'd rather write in a journal with my thoughts on things than anonymously post them, but I certainly like the idea to it. In shor...

Hello Everyone!   Twitter has broadened my perspective on being caught up with the news. I use to think boring online articles or the T.V. news is where I'd have to look to find out what is going on in the world. Now, I can browse Twitter to find out the big things going on and be involved in social media. Recently, I found out that Tesla invested in Bitcoin, a cryptocurrency. I found this out by following the Twitter accounts of Tesla and Elon Musk.      The digital divide can really segregate students' learning potential. Students that do not have access to technology are limited to the data teachers are generally expected from students. Not only is there a digital divide among students but older teachers even have a hard time using technology to teach their students. If I were a teacher, I would have the school try to provide students with the technology needed to learn the material.     The two educational software tools I would use are Microsoft ...

ELA standard LAFS.1112.2.2.6 in my own words: To use digital resources to share writing projects to provide responses in arguments. In other words, to use resources such as online blogs or zoom calls to respond to feedback and provide new information. I do feel prepared to implement the use of technology in helping my students with feedback. I feel as if I am prepared because of growing up with technology using Microsoft word, online blogs, and zoom. These applications are fairly easy to use to help students learn. Although, I have a lot of room to grow into an even more prepared teacher with these resources.     The CPALMS resource I chose was a 9-12th grade Social Studies lesson tool called "What is an American?" I chose this because this is what I am planning on major in doing. I would use this tool because its lesson's objective is to evaluate the structure of an argument which is an important factor in social science. The use of rhetorical appeals is ...
