Blog Journal #5

 Hello Everyone!

Twitter has broadened my perspective on being caught up with the news. I use to think boring online articles or the T.V. news is where I'd have to look to find out what is going on in the world. Now, I can browse Twitter to find out the big things going on and be involved in social media. Recently, I found out that Tesla invested in Bitcoin, a cryptocurrency. I found this out by following the Twitter accounts of Tesla and Elon Musk.

The digital divide can really segregate students' learning potential. Students that do not have access to technology are limited to the data teachers are generally expected from students. Not only is there a digital divide among students but older teachers even have a hard time using technology to teach their students. If I were a teacher, I would have the school try to provide students with the technology needed to learn the material.

The two educational software tools I would use are Microsoft and Grammarly. I believe everyone should use Microsoft applications whether it be using word to write your papers or powerpoint to present projects. These tools are generally implemented in schools, but I would make sure my students use these. I personally use Grammarly, a grammar software that you can use to correct your sentence structure, wording, and overall helping your papers. Right now, Grammarly is scanning what I am writing right now to make sure all the grammar is correct!

  1. That is very smart to use Twitter and social media to keep up with the on goings of large companies such as Tesla. You are correct that the digital divide is very detrimental to some students as the education system turns more and more virtual, those who cannot afford to practice these technologies outside of school are disadvantaged. It's just like having homework to practice concepts taught in school.

  2. Hey! I am so glad to hear that you intend to familiarize your students with Microsoft. The programs in Office are truly used in everyday life. By teaching your students about this, you are equipping them to navigate the professional word. Also, this can help with educators being proactive in preventing the continue of the digital divide!

  3. Hi Nhan!
I often forget that Twitter has the news source in it. That is smart, just be careful about what you read with social media since sometimes false information. I definitely agree with the digital divide segregating students' potential. It can really affect different students across many demographics, and I hope that we as teachers can close that gap.
